Reporting to the VP of FP&A, VIR is seeking a Sr. Director, Head of R&D Finance to serve as primary business partner to the R&D leadership team. The individual will Lead a team to consolidate all R&D financial and analyses. The position requires analytics, and cross functional collaboration skills, a deep understanding of pharmaceutical drug development.



Requirements

  • RESPONSIBILITIES AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES:

    • Oversee consolidated R&D financials and overall pipeline, including forecasts, long-range plan, scenario analysis and valuations.
    • Serve as key finance business partner for R&D executive leaders and be the subject matter expert including major R&D financial toggles, relevant partnership economics, funding sources, and value drivers
    • Support preparation and administration of Company annual budget and forecast
    • Improve and lead the team to manage R&D financial analytics and reporting, including R&D consolidation and analytics supporting quarter end and earnings needs, external, internal, collaboration, or government / non-profit partnership budget and forecast processes
    • Oversee R&D collaboration partnership financials, including review of quarter-end activities, external funding application and reporting, as well as budget and reporting related to collaboration partners
    • Lead the team to perform routine and ad hoc valuation and financial analysis, including analyses supporting portfolio investment decisions and asset NPV modeling supporting strategy and BD needs
    • Educate and establish processes such as quarterly R&D reviews to improve financials in strategic decision making across the R&D organization
    • Manage and mentor Finance team members
    • Support evaluation, design, implementation, and maintenance of financial systems and system upgrades
    • Proactively gather, analyze, prepare, and ensure awareness and understanding on important R&D financial insight; Suggest, design, and implement enhancement to existing processes and reporting

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in accounting, finance, or related fields with 10+ years of experience in finance related roles
    • Experience with pharmaceutical drug development processes and associated financial considerations a must
    • Excel (can maintain complex spreadsheets) power user, experience with NetSuite, Adaptive Insights, or Coupa.
    • Excellent knowledge of US GAAP accounting and SOX requirements
    • Track record of effectively partnering across the organization with a collaborative style working across internal and external teams a must
