This is a Full-Time 40 Hour Weekly position with the Department of Social Services in the Division of Finance. For more information on the DSS, please visit https://dss.sd.gov.

The position is based in Pierre, and moving expenses are included. Starting salary of $88,473 - $100,537 plus generous vacation leave, medical, dental, vision, and other benefits.

DSS is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to fulfill the duties of Deputy Finance Officer. The Deputy Finance Officer serves as an important strategic partner within DSS. The position helps in administering a nearly two-billion-dollar budget and leading a team of approximately 65 employees within the Division of Finance. As the Deputy Finance Officer, you will have the opportunity to:

  • help integrate distinct business units to operate in a unified process.

The Deputy Finance Officer will assist the Chief Financial Officer in leading all aspects of the Department’s financial activities. The Division of Finance is comprised of multiple functional areas including accounting and financial reporting, accounts payable, budget, electronic benefits transfer, fraud recoveries and investigations, and provider reimbursements and audits. Some of the specific responsibilities of the division include grants management, contract monitoring, rate setting, developing reimbursement methodologies, auditing cost reports, oversight and support of accounts payable, managing the accounting and financial reporting of the department, cost allocations, developing annual budget requests, analyzing revenues and expenditures, and monitoring internal controls.

  • skills in using information technology;
  • ability to lead process improvement and quality assurance;
  • ability to work collaboratively with a variety of groups on fiscal and policy issues; and
  • ability to clearly present complex information to various groups.
