General Manager FinancePurpose-led Not-for-Profit Organisation | Melbourne

The Role
Reporting to the Executive Director of Finance, the General Manager Finance will provide strategic financial leadership across the organisation, ensuring financial sustainability, robust governance and effective decision-making.
Leading a small finance and payroll team, this role will partner closely with Executives, senior leaders and Board committees to deliver insightful financial reporting, strengthen financial capability across the organisation and support long-term strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead the development, implementation and management of organisational budgets, forecasts and financial strategies aligned to strategic priorities.
- Provide accurate financial reporting, analysis and insights to Executive Leadership, Board and Finance Committees.
- Oversee statutory reporting, audit processes, compliance obligations and financial governance frameworks.
- Drive continuous improvement across financial systems, processes and controls to enhance organisational effectiveness.
- Lead and develop the finance and payroll teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Partner with senior stakeholders to improve financial capability, supporting effective budgeting, expenditure management and resource allocation.
- Provide strategic advice on financial sustainability, risk management and operational decision-making.
About You
You will be an experienced finance leader with a strong background in financial management, reporting and governance. You will bring the ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on financial leadership and thrive in a values-led environment.
You will ideally have:
- CPA/CA qualification (or equivalent).
- Proven leadership experience within a complex organisation, ideally within the not-for-profit, community services or social impact sector.
- Strong technical capability across financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, payroll and financial controls.
- Demonstrated experience partnering with Executives, Boards and senior stakeholders.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into meaningful insights.
- A continuous improvement mindset with experience enhancing financial systems, processes and reporting frameworks.
- A genuine alignment with the organisation's purpose, values and commitment to creating positive social impact.
