Research Analyst - Phoenix Gold Fund

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive Research Analyst to join the investment team of the Phoenix Gold Fund, a fund co-managed by Seraya Investment Pte Ltd in Singapore and AIMS Asset Management in Kuala Lumpur.

You will work directly with the Fund Managers to source new investment ideas and monitor existing holdings, using a fundamental, research-driven approach focused on early-stage opportunities in precious metals and the broader natural resources sector.

The Phoenix Gold Fund has operated since 2001 and has a long-term track record of outperforming both its benchmark and the gold price through disciplined fundamental analysis and a deep technical understanding of mining businesses.

This unique role is ideally suited to someone with a technical mining background who is looking to apply their expertise to equity investing.

Key Responsibilities

You will work closely with the Fund Managers to:

1. Build and maintain screening tools and models (primarily in Excel) to identify investment opportunities and support portfolio construction.
2. Conduct due diligence on companies under consideration for investment, including:
3. Reviewing technical information on projects (e.g. geology and development studies).
4. Reviewing annual reports and financial statements.
5. Analysing earnings drivers, cost structures, and balance sheet strength.
6. Assessing project economics, risks, and development pathways.
7. Monitor trading activity and share price movements to identify investment and trading opportunities.
8. Assist in the preparation of periodic reports, marketing materials, and investment recommendations for current and prospective investors.
9. Demonstrate a high level of diligence and professionalism, consistent with the regulatory standards of the funds management industry.

Essential Background, Qualifications & Skills

1. Tertiary qualifications and a minimum of three years' professional experience in a technical discipline such as Geology, Metallurgy, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
2. Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret industry data.
3. Strong analytical skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet tight deadlines.
4. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
5. Experience in equity research, financial modelling, and investing.
6. High attention to detail, a strong sense of ownership, and a genuine curiosity for equity research and investing.

Additional Information

1. Permanent full-time position under a standard Singapore employment contract.
2. The successful candidate will be based in an Australian capital city, with a hybrid working arrangement supported by the firm.
3. Initial onsite training and orientation with the Fund Manager will be provided.
