The Role
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and ongoing enhancement of the firm's global enterprise and market risk framework, establishing risk appetite, governance standards, and risk oversight across all regions and business lines.
- Act as a strategic advisor to the Board, Executive Committee, and senior leadership team on risk-related matters, ensuring risk considerations are appropriately integrated into business strategy and decision-making.
- Evaluate and approve trading limits, new investment strategies, products, asset classes, and market initiatives, ensuring robust risk controls and governance processes are in place prior to implementation.
- Build, lead, and scale the global risk management function, fostering a high-performance culture while mentoring and developing risk professionals across multiple international locations.
- Partner closely with investment, trading, and business leadership teams on growth initiatives, market expansion, liquidity management, and capital allocation decisions.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities, including the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), and oversee regulatory risk engagement across global jurisdictions.
- Establish and continuously refine quantitative risk methodologies, including Value-at-Risk (VaR), Expected Shortfall, stress testing, scenario analysis, concentration risk assessment, and portfolio risk analytics.
- Drive the adoption of technology, data analytics, and AI-enabled capabilities to enhance risk monitoring, reporting efficiency, and decision-making processes.
- Exercise independent risk authority to challenge, restrict, escalate, or suspend trading activities when risk exposures exceed approved limits or governance standards.
- Represent the Risk function at Board and senior management committees, providing constructive challenge and independent oversight while supporting sustainable business growth.
- Ensure a robust global risk governance framework that balances effective risk management with commercial objectives and evolving market conditions.
Your Profile
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in market risk, trading risk, or investment risk management, including leadership experience or a senior deputy role. Candidates seeking their first Head of Risk position are encouraged to apply.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience managing trading book market risk, including the design, implementation, and enforcement of VaR, Expected Shortfall, stress testing, and risk limit frameworks.
- Strong understanding of financial markets, trading strategies, and market microstructure. Candidates with prior trading, portfolio management, or front-office experience are highly preferred.
- Proven experience interacting with regulators, risk committees, and senior stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.
- Solid quantitative risk management expertise with deep knowledge of market risk modelling, scenario analysis, and stress-testing methodologies.
- Familiarity with emerging technologies, data analytics, and AI applications within the risk management environment.
- Professional certifications such as CFA, FRM, or PRM are strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree or above in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and challenge senior executives effectively.
- Fluency in English is required; Cantonese and/or Mandarin would be advantageous.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, global organization, working across multiple time zones and multicultural teams.
